First, limiting processed foods and keeping a balanced and nutritious diet ensure that your body receives the fuel it needs to manage your energy level. Because different kinds of foods are converted to energy at different rates, some—such as whole grains and healthy unsaturated fats—supply the reserves you’ll need to draw on throughout the day, while others, like candy and other simple sugars, give you a quick but temporary lift.


Next, exercise helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to your tissues and therefore gets your cardiovascular system working more efficiently so that you have more energy to go about your daily activities. Through increased physical activity, you might experience improved stamina, enhanced immune response, and a decreased risk of chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, and heart conditions. The Mayo Clinic explains that regular physical exercise improves muscle strength and boosts endurance, which gives you more energy. Moreover, physical activity also helps increase energy by promoting better sleep. With physical exercise, your body is able to fall asleep faster and reach a deeper sleep.


Lastly, increased energy levels are attributed to sleeping early and getting a full night’s rest of 7 to 8 hours. Exercise also promotes production of serotonin, which can keep you emotionally stable and reduce feelings of depression. Second, eating a healthy diet can be just as helpful for your mind. Healthy fats like omega-3s can reduce depression and decrease mood disorders. Foods high in omega-3s include fish, especially fatty fish such as salmon, flax seeds, chia seeds, and walnuts.


Additionally, habits such as journaling, volunteering, reading a good book, taking a 5-minute guided meditation, or playing with your pet can decrease your stress and improve your overall mental health. This is because part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and mind involves taking time to step back and relax. Finding time to do things you love can help you cultivate a more positive mood.
